Can anyone recommend an inexpensive spectrum analyzer. $500 - $1000.
Something just for sniffing around. Not for bench work.

well.....
thatsa bit of a tough one. a good (or at least decent) spectrum analyzer can
run you $1,000 and up. the "el-cheapo" ones are less, but don't perform
well or have a lack of useful "features"
basically, its "you get what you pay for).
you might check the ebay and craigslist.com sites for possibilities.
