BAMA is now being mirrored!
Through the generosity of Bob Duckworth, AH7I and Ed Kujawski, a
mirror of the BAMA ftp site is now available. The mirror is a web
site, so you will see the ftp archives when you click on the mirror
address with your browser. You may find it helpful to look for your
manual using the BAMA site and then click on the mirror site, navigate
to the file that you want and download it. While the name of the
mirror site has yet to be determined, the numeric address is all you
need for the moment. Please point your browsers to
http://216.24.174.245 and spread the good news!
And a great big "Thank you" to Bob and Ed for helping take some of the
strain off of the BAMA server.
73,
Ken K4XL

This is _really cool_ -- but when I try to get into any of the directories I
get "Either the server does not allow anonymous logins or the e-mail address
was not accepted".
Could this be my problem, or are there bugs to iron out?

A free web site can cost several hundred dollars a year to run and maintain
including Provider Costs, Search Engine, Link Checker, Domain Name costs,
Computer Maintenance, necessary software, anti-virus, spyware, firewalls,
etc. To say nothing of the many hours these folks put in for our free use.
How in the world can anyone complain about it??

Like many other endeavors, if someone hasn't actually tried doing it, they
have no idea whatsoever what it takes.
Put up a PayPal donation link. In the past year I have made more donations
and paid for more "free" software than I paid for shrink-wrapped big-name
stuff.

I did the paypal thing -- very little return
So instead I have 3 Affiliate sites -- Amazon etc.
Works much better and pays for about half my costs for a Megasite and I
somewhat feel I earned it.
But anyway thanks for the reply.
These days there is a wealth of free info on the internet -- some bad --
most good and I applaud all who do -- a real service to the Ham community as
well as many other interests.

Well, if it isn't the mild-mannered Mr. Goldsmith!
Never outspoken, are you?!
He he!
Actually I agree with you on most of this. You could have left out the
personal remarks and the puke, LOL!
K8BVJ is just impatient and new to FTP.

How the hell does it cost for the provider service if it is FREE?

Free to the readers --- costly to the wemaster -- just ask any of them.
I pay my provider (like earthlink -- but not earthlink) a monthly fee to
connect to the internet.
you can get charged extra if the bandwidth is exceeded.
And a megasite can easly have way over the bandwidth they limit to.
Earthlink did that to me -- sent me a $140 bill in addition to my $29 a
month bill -- so dropped them.
So had go to elsewhere and it costs me $40 a month x 12 = $480 to get the
web space I need and the bandwidth.
Then you run into the problem of some nut banging on your website
automatically and drivng the bandwidth out of site.
Mabe you meant juno.com -- but you can't run a big website on Juno or
zero.net or those guys.

You will have to have spyware, firewalls, very tight cgi-bins and a lot more
if you run a website
