Default High Winds Knock Down Radio Tower

April 9, 2005

Craig, Colorado

High winds ahead of a major storm expected to move in over the weekend
knocked down a radio tower Friday, disrupting television and radio stations
and police communications in Moffat County.

Police communications had to be switched to alternate channels after the
tower on the north side of town was blown down about 2 p.m., said Ruth Wade,
communications supervisor with the Colorado State Patrol.
Wind gusts of up to 80 mph were reported in the area, Wade said.

"It is still blowing pretty steady," she said early Friday evening.

Crews were repairing the steel, three-legged tower, but Wade did not know
when they would finish.

The spring storm was expected to drop to 2 feet of snow along the foothills
of the Front Range late Saturday night and Sunday.
