803s in push-pull / parallel by
Antonio I0JX
I have started building a 7-MHz AM trasmitter with four suppressor-modulated
803s in push-pull-parallel. I expect to get nearly 400W of carrier power.
My only concern is plate voltage. As a matter of fact I plan to use a power
supply that delivers about 2800V under no-load conditions, which is...

DX-100 or Apache? by
Brian Burns
Hello All,
I'm looking for an AM/CW rig in the 100 watt class, and may have a choice between a Heath DX-100 and a Heath Apache. In looking at the specs I could find on the two, the Apache looks like the better choice. What do you think?
Cheers,
Brian Ex: W5BRO, K6UCD

Cleaning by
dan/danl
I am cleaning an assortment of transmitters and receivers. Most have
wax residue in ventilation holes. I have tried using several cleaners
and soaps with a soft tooth brush and hot water. I can't find my old
style stiff pipe cleaners, only the new soft designer color ones. I
am going to try and...

collins 30L-1 by
Antonio I0JX
That sounds horrible! The wonderful thing about those amps is that there
are enormous safety margins on everything and they are just solidly
over-engineered. Why would anyone want to wreck that for the sake of
less than one S-unit?

Putting a date on waxed or painted electrical wiring by
[email protected]
I'm attempting to determine the approximate age of a device I have by it's wiring since there are no other identifiable marks. While it's not actually a rig (it's an old electric powered film security camera), I feel this is the appropriate place to post given the expertise of the Ham community....

Octal tube sockets and FT-243 by
Tim Wescott
Answering Robb's question made me think of a very mild puzzler:
Can you think of a way to connect up an octal tube socket so that no
matter what orientation a pair of crystals is put into it you'll still
have two switchable crystals (no forcing pins allowed -- only schemes
where the crystal...

I smoked the "Line Adjust" rheostat in my TV-7D tube tester recently and

using a variac to set the voltage level.
If anyone has a tv-7 junker, I sure could use one. It is 200 ohms in
