IRTS AGM Weekend

Our AGM Weekend took place on Saturday and Sunday last in Dundalk. The
event was hosted by the Dundalk Amateur Radio Society, who pulled out
all the stops to ensure that everything went smoothly.

The first function was the IRTS Annual Dinner on Saturday. This was
very well attended, with more than 90 members and guests present. The
guests included Hans Timmerman, PB2T (President of IARU Region 1),
Colin Thomas, G3PSM (representing RSGB), Rory Hinchy, EI4DJB
(representing the Minister for Communications), Derek O'Reilly
(representing ComReg) and Marianne Butler, who chairs Dundalk Town
Council. After the dinner we were entertained by the Donal Nagle Band.

The usual traders and some more took tables at Sunday's Rally; business
seemed to be reasonably brisk. Coinciding with the Rally there was a
talk on SD Logging by Paul EI5DI, author of the SD Logging Program. The
80m news was read from the Rally at 12.00 noon by Ger EI4GXB inside the
AREN mobile unit which was situated in hotel car park.

The turnout at the society's Annual General Meeting was the highest in
recent years. In addition to the presentation of the Committee Report
and the Annual Accounts, there was a lively discussion at the meeting
on points raised by members. Also, Paul EI2CA formally handed over the
presidency to Séamus EI8BP. Prior to the handover, Paul presented the
President's Cup to John Tait, EI7BA "for his excellence in DXing over
decades". The President's Cup - awarded to John Tait EI7BA "for
excellence in DXing over decades" Sheila Piper Cup - awarded to Pat
Fitzpatrick EI2HX "for his series of articles on Amateur Television
which were published in Echo Ireland." See www.irts.ie/awards for more
information on the trophies and cups presented at this year's AGM.
