Default Heath HD-1250 help

I have a heath HD1250 grid dip meter. I do not have a manual. The thing
oscillates just fine but I barely get a dip. It's the meter and not my
technique because I have another dipper and it works fine. Are these
normally good devices? Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
