Default SWR meter calibration question - hooked up backwards?

I have a MFJ 864 SWR/power meter. It has
two main circuits - 1.8-60 mhz & 144/440 mhz.

I'm working on the HF section, trying to make
sure it's correct. I have a known good power
meter and a 1:1 load.

If I set the forward power to 5w, can I get away
with hooking up the meter backwards to read
reflected power?

I set forward power to 5 w then reversed the
connection and adjusted for 5 w reflected.

Is this ok?
