I prefer chrome plated brass for marine and salt environment over
stainless steel. With enough exposure and time, SS will rust. Brass
never rusts. james

Cheers James, but where am I missing something when you say stainless steel rusts?
Wouldn't brass oxidize in a salt environment? Besides what I am reffering to is
the nuts/bolts holding the kit together. An observant operator will inspect his
kit yearly and make adjustments accordingly.

Howdy Jim,

Yes SS does rust, but at a far lower rate than regular steel. Brass might
oxidize a little, but will never corrode under salt air environments.

Landshark

Hey Shark, my point was that stainless when used and inspected
accordingly would perform just as well as brass at a lower cost. Should
have said that originally. Its actually a silly point as we are talking
nickels and dimes.

Ya know mate you've been postng negative crap concerning cb operators for
the past several months. Whats up with that? I'm thinking, correct me if
I'm wrong, you have nothing better to do. Do you post on the amateur ng's
with any relative discussions?

On a lighter note, how about them Niners???? LMAO!!!!

They just barely lost to them...how about that call at the end with the

Nuts and bolts are exactly what I am talking about. Brass, like SS,
have many different alloys in which some are better than others. I
should also mention that not all brass is usable for screws and nuts.
With brass too much zync and/or too little zync make most brass not
usable for screws. Too m uch zy nc and brass becomes brittle. Too
little zync and it becomes to soft. Aluminum can be added in small
amounts to make brass more resistant to oxidation. Also brass is
heavier than SS.

SS is not totally resistant to rust. There are several alloys of SS
that are less reactive with salt air environment. Yet eventually they
to will start to rust. Brass will oxidize with the salt air
environment. The oxide from brass is far easier to clean and less
evasive than that of oxidation from ferrous material. Ferrous oxide,
rust, will consume the entire ferrous metal. With brass, oxidation
retards as the surface area is coated. With brass the oxidation acts
like a protective coating and when there is no more exposed brass,
oxidation slows dramatically. Iron based metals do not exhibit this
quality.

Next to the coast here in Florida, I have seen SS start rusting in
less than a year. Also, I used to own a boat and after a year or two,
every piece of SS on the boat was replaced with chrome plated brass.

Dang, that seems fairly quick but I don't doubt it. Thankfully we only get
big snow here, no salt waters except what sprays up from the salted parking
lots and roads in the winter travels on your vehicle.

Isn't copper as soft as your dick after you're done ****ing tho? I can't
imagine it as a mounting hardware.

Bull**** because you guys didn't luck out and tie at the end, right?
Otherwise we all know you Jets were hardly even in that game with the lowly
Browns as far as I could see.
