Default Sony shortwave repair, and reception question--

Hi folks--

I have two Sony shortwave receivers that need repair--one is the ICF SW-007,
the battery bay on that one has a bad spring mechanism, and keeps popping
open--I have to tape it shut with duct tape. Less importantly, the top
section of the antenna broke off, and I'd also like to have the antenna
replaced/repaired if possible.

My other receiver (forget the nomenclature, but it's the "weird looking"
small portable that came out four or five years ago) has a broken volume
dial. I dropped the radio on its side a few months ago, and the volume dial
became jammed so it couldn't be advanced easily. I fiddled around with it
some, and proceeded to break it entirely--the volume dial came out of the
slot entirely, and into my hands. Now, the radio is continually on the
*highest* volume level, and now there's no way to turn it down, since the
volume dial is no longer in its slot.

So, I'd like to have both radios repaired if I can--they both fit my needs
(small and portable and easy to pack/travel with), neither of them are
"throwaway" radios by any means, and to me, worth fixing. However, I
couldn't find anywhere on the Sony website where they listed radio repair
facilities. I also checked Universal Radio's website, and I think they said
they no longer accept Sony radios for repair.

Hopefully, someone here can help with this, and suggest someplace where I
can send my radios for repair.

Lastly, I've noticed the reception on all of my favorite stations (WWCR,
Radio Havana, etc.) is *lousy*, and has been so for the past couple of
weeks. Is it the time of year, or something else? Just wondering.

Thanks in advance,

Jean in SE VA

Goto http://groups.yahoo.com/ and search for a group named "SW07" or
"icf-sw07". Also do a search for "icfsw07" parts to fix it yourself:
