75A-1 question

I acquired a very clean 75A-1 at Dalton a few months ago. Serial # 1930. I
plan to pair it with my Viking II. I have re-capped it. It has very good
sensitivity and is even passable on SSB, although that is not its intended
use. I have been trying it out and find that if I tune up the band the
sensitivity drops but if I tune down the band the sensitivity is restored.
What could be the cause of this? Before I open the PTO can someone give
some advise? I thought it could be loose connection...
