.
Richards,
.
1 - I currently have a 4-Bander Horizontal Wire Antenna
using a TV type 300 Ohm to 75 Ohm Matching Transformer
and 75 Ohm RG6 Coax Cable feed-in-line.
.
2 - It can also be Rigged as a Sloper with a Couterpose
* Just 25 Foot Long
* Rig the Apex at 20 Feet with the Far-End at 8 Feet
* Use a 20 Foot Counterpose
* 22 Feet of Ground Space {Foot-Print} at 60 Degree Angle
* 18 Feet of Ground Space {Foot-Print} at 45 Degree Angle
.
3- For very "Limited' Space rig it as a Vertical
* Bottom Feed-Point at/near Ground Level
* Use a Ground Rod at the Base -if- possible
* Apex High-End-Point 25-26 Feet
.
Mutli-Element Shortwave Listening (SWL) Antenna :
.
Four Element "Flat" 5-Wire TV Rotor Cable 25 Foot Long
Rigged as a Horizontal Wire Antenna - a la John Doty
.
Laid-Out : South-West to North-East (Far End)
22 Foot Up about Two-Feet above the Back Roof
TV 'type' 300 Ohm to 75 Ohm Matching Transformer
RG6 Coax Cable Feed-in-Line about 25 Feet Long

Default Simpler 3-Bander Three-Wire Horizontal Antenna for Shortwave Listening (SWL)

For One and All,
.
Some one on another Group pointed out that the old 5-Wire "Flat"
TV Rotor Cable is getting hard to find.
.
They noted that their RadioShack still had some of the more
common 3-Wire "Flat" TV Rotor Cable available.
.

.
Plus they wanted a simple Multi-Band Horizontal Wire Antenna
to 'span' the 55 Foot distance across their backyard.

- That looks simple enough and a good workable solution.
-
- I was confused about the A,B,C feed points.
-
- Are these all spliced together to the feed in line.
- or are they separated by a switch so that they are
- used separately on each respective band?

- Thanks

Simpler 3-Bander Horizontal Wire Antenna for Shortwave Listening
(SWL) - Message # 14039
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Shortw.../message/14069
.
"A" and "B" and "C" are simply Designators for the 'individual'
Antenna Wires in the Three Wire Rotor Cable
.
At the Feed-Point "X" are three Wires are Connected together.
.
- Feed-Point . . . . . . . . . . . . . Far-End -
.
A X----------------------------------------------o 48 Feet ~ 60m
.
B X-----------------------------------o_o--------o 39 Feet ~ 49m
.
C X-----------------------------o_o--------------o 33 Feet ~ 41m
.
A = 48 Feet ~ 1/4 WL for 60 Metre Shortwave Band ~ 4.7 MHz
B = 39 Feet ~ 1/4 WL for 49 Metre Shortwave Band ~ 5.9 MHz
C = 33 Feet ~ 1/4 WL for 41 Metre Shortwave Band ~ 7.1 MHz
.
"X" = Antenna Feed-Point Connection-Point for All Three Wires
"-" = Wire Antenna Element
"o" = End 'No' Connection
"_" = One Inch Gap {Space between the Wire Ends}
.
.
* * * REVISION * * *
.
Re-Order the Three Wires with the {Un-Cut} "A" in the Center
and the "Cut" "B" and "C" Wires on the Out-Side.
.
B X-----------------------------------o_o--------'b' 39 Feet ~ 49m
.
A X----------------------------------------------'a' 48 Feet ~ 60m
.
C X-----------------------------o_o--------------'c' 33 Feet ~ 41m
.
WHY - This 'places' the Two Wires that have to be "Cut" with
a One-Inch piece {Gap} remove on the Out-Side to make the build
process a little easier.
.
* * * ALTERATION * * *
.
The 'b' Far-End 9-Feet Remnant of "B" can be joined to the
'c' Far-End 15-Feet Remnant of "C" to form a bent 24 Foot
passively-coupled Antenna Element for the 31m Band. Can't
hurt and may help.
.
* * * THE FEED=POINT CONNECTION * * *
.
This is a Multi-Element Antenna that is "Cut' for Three
Shortwave Bands. The Feed-in-Line can be a Coax Cable
with the Inner Conductor 'connected' to the Wire Antenna
Elements -and- having the Outer-Shield of the Coax Cable
Grounded at/in the Radio Shack.
.
NOTE - The use of a 9:1 Matching Transformer between the
Antenna Elements and the Coax Cable feed-in-line is "Optional"
-but- May provide better performance. In this instance
the Matching Transformer* would be Wired :
.
Nine-Side : Antenna Element Wires and the Outer-Shield of
the Coax Cable.
.
One-Side : Inner Conductor of the Coax Cable and the Outer
Shield of the Coax Cable.
.
* This configuation of the Matching Transformer is a
'so-called' Magnetic Longwire Balun (MLB)
.
.
hope this helps - iane ~ RHF

Default Simple 4-Bander Five-Wire Shortwave Listener (SWL) Antenna - Rigged It : Horizontal -or- Sloper -or- Vertical

FO&A,

This Week's 'new' Shortwave Listening (SWL) Antenna :

Linear Twin (2) Element Horizontal Wire Antenna - End-Fed Windom
Antenna
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Shortw.../message/14164
63 Feet Long - - - a la John Doty

Laid-Out : South-East to North-West (Far End) from
the Back of he Roof of the House to the Backyard

TV 'type' 300 Ohm to 75 Ohm Matching Transformer

-Note- These are the Larger 3/4" Round Barrel ones that
are usually provided with TV and FM Antennas and can be
bougth in Stores. They seem to work better as a Low Cost
Shortwave Antenna Matching Transformer; than the smaller
1/2" Round Barreled ones that are much cheaper.

RG6 Quad Coax Cable Feed-in-Line about 25 Feet Long

? WHY ? Two End-to-End "Linner" Horizontal Wires ?
MT:==================-------------------------------o
24 Feet Twin Lead and 39 Feet Litz Wire
..
* The 24 Feet of 300 Ohm Twin Lead is connected across
the 300 Ohm Side of the Matching Transformer.

* The 39 Feet of Litz Wire [ 50-Strands of # 41 AWG ] is
connected to one side of the Twin Lead. - Note the other
side of the Twin Lead is not connected at the Far-End it
Floats in Parallel.

* The Total Length is 63 Feet for the Longer

* Note the Shorter Wire is 24 Feet and it's Far-End is not
'connected; and this "other' Side of the Twin Lead Floats
in Parallel to the Longer Side.

Sort of : Acts like One Wire -and- Acts like Three Wires :

* 63 Feet ~ 1/4 WL for 75m Shortwave Band
~ 3.9 ~ 7.8 ~ 11.7 ~ 15.6 ~ 19.5 ~ 23.4 ~ 27.3

* 39 Feet ~ 1/4 WL for 49m Shortwave Band
~ 5.9 ~ 11.8 ~ 17.7 ~ 23.6 ~ 29.5

* 24 Feet ~ 1/4 WL for 31m Shortwave Band

Currently Rigged "Flat" at about 17~18 Feet above ground level.

Might call it an End-Fed Windom Antenna . . . . .

Default Linear Twin (2) Element Horizontal Wire Antenna - End-Fed Windom Antenna

MT:==================-------------------------------o
24 Feet Twin Lead and 39 Feet Litz Wire
..
* The 24 Feet of 300 Ohm Twin Lead is connected across
the 300 Ohm Side of the Matching Transformer.

* The 39 Feet of Litz Wire [ 50-Strands of # 41 AWG ] is
connected to one side of the Twin Lead. - Note the other
side of the Twin Lead is not connected at the Far-End it
Floats in Parallel.

* The Total Length is 63 Feet for the Longer

* Note the Shorter Wire is 24 Feet and it's Far-End is not
'connected; and this "other' Side of the Twin Lead Floats
in Parallel to the Longer Side.
..
Sort of : Acts like One Wire -and- Acts like Three Wires :

* 63 Feet ~ 1/4 WL for 75m Shortwave Band
~ 3.9 ~ 7.8 ~ 11.7 ~ 15.6 ~ 19.5 ~ 23.4 ~ 27.3

* 39 Feet ~ 1/4 WL for 49m Shortwave Band
~ 5.9 ~ 11.8 ~ 17.7 ~ 23.6 ~ 29.5

* 24 Feet ~ 1/4 WL for 31m Shortwave Band
~ 9,4 ~ 18.8 ~ 28.2
