Default XM Radio

Just wondering if anybody with a 2ghz scanner has been able to detect the XM
satellite signal.Seems you should hear the carrier but don't know if it
would be WFM or not. Its up by 2.3 to 2.45 i think.

Any AOR owners try it yet?.

Yeah. Couldn't get anything recognizable with my AOR AR8600 and an LPY2
antenna. Being digitally modulated, it wouldn't be useful for anything
anyway. I think the antennas for the satellite radio receivers are
amplified, so without that extra gain, a typical receiver couldn't really
pick it out of the noise floor.

The antenna I have for my XM receiver said "high gain" if I remember right,
but it itsn't powered.

Is it possible to amplify a signal with just a small transformer at the
antenna without any power going to it?

The one XM antenna I took apart (while the owner looked on nervously) had
active circuitry. DC power is run up the coax; a simple capacitor is all
that is needed to decouple the DC from the RF signal. I only ever looked at
one, so there may be other approaches, too.

Is Sirius similar? I need an external NON-mag mount antenna that's water
tight as well. Don't mind drilling a mount hole cause I have an antenna
farm going up on the vans roof rack. If anyone knows of a cool antenna pass
it on. The home antenna works well for now.

What is up in the 1.5 to 2.6 ghz spectrum to hear? I used to own one
of those delux Yupiteru models that could scan those ranges but never
heard any radio traffic.
