I went to that Crane website you gave me, and right there looks like
the radio that I bought from them many years ago. It is the same
style, knobs, etc. But subtle differences. In the picture where it
says DX mine says WX, and The one in the picture does not have
"SANGEAN" on it. It's that CCradio plus. I bet Crane went to a
cheapo asian manufacturer that cuts corners by cutting out quality. I
guess they make garbage now. I won't be buying from them in the
future. You know, in one of these forums I recall folks talking about
an antennae tuner or something like that put out by Crane, and they
were saying it was trash too.

I listened to Art bell a few days ago. He's asking folks (again) to
concentrate on using mind or thought control to ask the aliens to come
and show themselves. Some callers called in to say they saw the
UFO's. Bell is claiming success. What a bunch of nutjobs. Say, I
heard something a while back about Art Bell liking them young. Tells
about his character. I had surgery on my leg last month and can't
work yet (service connected disability) so i've been tuning the radio
a lot (various SW sets and old BC radios too).
But my older CCradio radio works well enough for the weather part, and
that's what I wanted it for. It's for the cellar. AM & FM also work
ok but nothing grand. Sure as hell not worth $169.00!!!!!!!!!! Did
you see what they cost now? what a rip

Art Bell and George Noory are similar to those freaks so-called
preachers on radio and tv.They are running scam snake oil shows.

Whether it is Art Bell, George Noory or the survivalists that used to
inhabit the 5mhz band, they each seem to attract their own brand of
follower. Some of them are nuts enough to qualify as a True Believer
in Eric Hoffer's book.

You got one GREAT radio! I bought this radio at the Freedom Hill PX in Danang Vietnam in Spring 1970. Has worked well ever since (except yesterday the on-off switch failed...and now I have to try to figure out how to fix it.) This radio has the best bass and treble of any small radio I've ever owned. i have a mild high frequency hearing loss (again something I got in Vietnam) and this radio boosts the highs beautifully in "music" mode on the Tonal setting. Congratulations.
and if anyone has thoughts about how to repair the on-off switch...(it won't turn on anymore)...let me know.
thanks
Roger

12 transistor 8 diodes. Has anyone seen or heard one of these
radios? I am amazed, extremely amazed at the volume and sound quality
of this little portable. I can't believe that it sounds so well.
Volume is loud, too loud; speaker distorts finally at upper limits of
the volume control. But the sound is high-fidelity, crisp, clear,
clean. Lows below and the highs are crisp and clear. Unbelievable.
Made in Japan in 1968. Came with one of those period ersatz leather
cases. On the case handle there is a small pouch containing the
earphone. Excellent condition. I'm telling you, Bose has nothing on
this radio. I opened it up to clean the band selector, and noticed
the transistors. a few of the familiar period cans, but several very
small white "pucks" looking much like SMD technology, with the three
leads coming out the sides. Marked with 459, 185, 183, etc. Two
transistors I couldn't see, but I believe the were mounted push-pull
for the audio final under and on the metal plate lining the underside
of the battery box. The Japanese did well back in th' day with this
one. Sensitive, too. Picks up as well as my Worldstar or Grundig.
It has a 7" ferrite rod inside and a small telescoping whip.

Was wondering if anyone has the schematic or service manual for the Panasonic RF-850HB "World boy" ?
