Default Uniden BC 760 XLT - Loss of received signal (deaf)

Hello Group:

I have a Uniden BC 760 XLT that seems work well except that it is totally deaf.
The CPU & Memory seem good, the squelch works but otherwise, it is totally deaf.
The unit is equipped with the RF amplifier (have tried turning it on and off).
The unit also has the CTCSS and also have tried turning it on and off with no
effect.

I did open the unit and checked for bad solder joints, a bad antenna connector,
etc. but did not see any mechanical issues.
I am guessing the first mixer or second mixer has died.
Could not find a service manual or schematic to further understand the radio (I
do have an owner's manual but that is worthless to service the radio with).

When it used to work, it was not a bad scanner for its day.
While the image frequencies could be an issue, you just worked around them.
The reason I want to get it working again is that it is a small scanner in size,
has a metal case, and was meeting my requirements.

I am not sure that Uniden will repair something this old (must be at least 20
years old now).

Any advice would be useful.

Thanks.

If it doesn't receive, then it doesn't work.
Most times if you have a good scanner, it will work until something goes wrong inside of the scanner.
Most times the problem is caused by having a transmitter too close to the receive antenna - ie - using a 2 meter / 70 cm radio in close proximity, or living next to a fire station, ambulance etc..

You can buy a cheap Woushun or Beofung handheld radio - that not only receives but also transmits for about $40 that will do the same thing!
Why throw good money at it to fix it when you can buy something else that is inexpensive.
