That is shaped very much like the Emerson Compact. 100-to-one odds
that it's an Emerson chassis.

Is the top warped, or is that a photographic illusion? And has it
been refinished? The Emerson cabinet was made by Ingraham but the
wood in this one looks quite different. Emerson might have supplied
chassis to another retailer.

And has it been refinished?

I'd vote yes. When have you seen a radio of that vintage with such light
color?

I haven't seen the cabinet, but that grille cloth looks new. I'll ask
the owner. Ken

The circuit is exactly like the Emerson 20A and 25A, except for the
socket in question. Ken

Alan, the cabinet was stripped and finished, no stain. The top is not
warped. Do you know anything about the Silver Bell company? Ken

I never heard of Silver Bell, but it could have been a house brand. I
don't know if Emerson had manufacturing capability at this time, or if
they were still buying chassis from International in Ann Arbor. If
the latter, International could have made their own version, with a
cabinet from a local supplier. All things considered, this seems the
most likely explanation. I don't think Ben Abrams would have cut the
ties to International before being sure he could go it alone. The
Compact model was a runaway success, as it turned out. I think the
"portable" features were dropped after Abrams saw how few customers
cared.
