Several of my recent posts have dealt with a program to help new hams get
started. Well, that program now has a name—Ham Radio Jump Start— and weve
even held some trial sessions. Heres a recording of the first session,
Having fun with amateur radio. The goal of this session is to give a broad
overview of all the different things one can do with amateur radio.

Next, be on the lookout for for more sessions:

Choosing a first (or second) radio
Programming a VHF/UHF radio using Chirp
Improved antennas for handheld transceivers (telescopic whips, mobile,
roll-up j-pole, …)
Getting on the air (VHF repeater and simplex)

Ill also be setting up a website with moreÂ* information about these
sessions, a schedule, and a form to sign up for them. Stay tuned for that.

If you’re an instructor and you think that you might like to be part of
this effort, you can subscribe to our mailing list by going to
https://ham-instructor.groups.io/g/NewHams. Weve held two meeting, via
Zoom, already, and I think we have some momentum going here.
