Many thanks for all the kind words about Reg. I'm new to newsgroups but
have followed avidly dad's two favourite groups over the last 24 hours.
(It somehow makes me feel closer to him). I'm especially pleased to
read that you are trying to keep dad's website alive (cheers for that)
and also the postings from those who say they are still learning from
his programs. Dad was definitely all for education and it would have
warmed the cockles of his heart to have read such postings. (Somehow, I
think he is reading them and will be watching you from afar). My
brother Pete is the one to do all the technical 'stuff' in preserving
the website, My "technical"experience concerning antenna only extends
to remembering to remove the aerial before entering the car wash! TTFN

Hello Jean (which happens to also be my wife's name),

I'm glad that you're pleased with our keeping your Dad's website alive--it would
be a sacrilege if we didn't.

I should tell you that when traveling to England three years ago, also while on
the North Sea traveling back to England, I sent several emails to your Dad,
which he failed to answer. After returning to the US I pointedly asked him if he
received my emails why didn't he respond. I was disappointed to learn that he
didn't feel comfortable at receiving guests (I wanted to visit him), because he
was sensitive about his appearance. I understood that, and forgave him for not
answering. However, I would have very much liked to have met him, but I still
have his portrait downloaded from his web site, from which I'll see him from
time to time, never forgetting him.

Again, I'd like for both you and your brother Peter to accept my sincere
condolences on the loss of your wonderful father, Reg.

I always enjoyed your dad's comments, although as some others, I
didn't always agree with him. I think some who disagreed overlooked
his subtle humor and took his remarks much too seriously. I sometimes
suggested, always in jest, that maybe he had sampled too much of that
evening's bottle.

Regardless of the technical disagreements it was impossible to not be
disarmed by that photo of his wonderful countenance on his web site.
It was nice to have known him even from afar and via this medium. We
will miss him.

So as I hoist a glass of good California red I too say, "Cheers Reg!"

I remember those e-mails you sent dad, he deliberated over them for
some time. I tried to persuade him to meet you but at that time Dad was
really quite poorly. I'm sorry you didn't meet. Best wishes to you your

The technical aspects of antennas are complex, and some of the readers of
this group (such as myself) are unable to fully participate in discussing
the fine points. I want you to know that your dad was one of the handful of
highly respected antenna gurus who discussed these technical issues. I
learned very much by reading his posts and thinking about his views. The
newsgroup will not be the same without him.

Jean and family,

You have great reason to be proud of Reg, both as a person, and as an
exceptional ham! He had incredible physical intuition, and was one of
the few people who knew how a piece of aluminum in an electromagnetic
field "feels." He was kind and patient enough to share that with
those of us who don't those skills.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of
loss.

Reg was one of the folks who defined this group.
