Default Do you think discussions on repeaters are as technical today as they were 25 Years ago?

Here in San Diego we have the following nets -- weekly

Tue/Thu/Sat 2000 146.730 NTS Traffic Net (SDCTN)
Sunday 0830 146.730 ARES Net

Sunday 2045 147.075 MARA Emergency Services
Monday 1915 146.730 RACES Sub-Net
Monday 2100 146.730 Microwave Net
Tuesday 1900 147.130 Red Cross Net

Thursday 2100 146.730 Ham Help Net

Since you mentioned San Diego, let's add the following: The SOBARS club has
two nets on Tuesday evenings, one 10m (SSB simplex) and one 2m (FM
repeater). There really is a lot of hamming taking place. When the
repeater craps out (rarely), we all switch smartly to simplex on the output
and carry on, including relaying for stations that can't hear it all. Most
of the talk is ham-related, with an occasional
what-i-did-on-my-summer-vacation" thrown in. Antennas get their fair share
of the chatter.
