Tower Question

how far is reasonable to run rg-213 or beldin 9913 cable? i am probably
gonna have to put the tower over 100 ft from the station. would like to hear

Losses for rg-213

And for 9913
http://bwccat.belden.com/ecat/pdf/9913.pdf

Question is now, how much loss you can afford.

Really depends on the operating frequency. If you can do NOT scrimp on the
coax. I have several runs (over 600ft total)of Davis "Bury Flex" 9914 which
has advantages over 213 and 9913 with loss figures very nearly the same as
9913 / LMR 400 hardline. It is very flexible (good for rotator loops)and can
be directly buried. It is highly abrasion resistant and wildlife resistant
(gnawing, chewing) and is non-contaminating. It accepts regular pl259's as
well. Good luck

I have coax runs over a thousand feet... Stop analyzing and just do

Not necessarily, if he is just operating on 160M and 75M, and maybe
even 40M ... and if his distant antenna location is enhanced over what
he could obtain closer.

Yeah, I automatically jumped to the conclusion that on this group he is
talking HF... My answer would be different for vhf/uhf...

Impossible to tell if we don't know the frequencies you will be operating
on.

Tower Question

Dear Mike (KU4YP):

This is usually an economics question. How much will you pay for the
last 0.5 db of performance?

An alternative that I use is to use coax that has no more than 1 db of
loss at the frequency in use.

With a tower of reasonable height that is over 100 feet away, it is
unlikely that any 213 type coax is good value other than at 80 meters or
below.

For receiving below something like 25 MHz, most any coax is good enough.
