Once things start rolling downhill it's hard to stop it. Look what
happened to CB. You want that on ham radio?

you apparently aren't familiar with what's been going on down on
75/80m and also on 20m. read the fcc actions in most any ham magazine
and you'll see that by and large the offenders are general class
licensees and above.

now, of course, not all, not even most, generals, advanced and extra
class ticket holders act cause problems. heck, not even most hams.
but i still don't see how doing ANY of the things you suggest will do
anything EXCEPT thin the ranks which, in my mind, will do nothing but
cause our service to become extinct.

And dumbing down the exams will make us irrelevant.

SC

who's suggesting anything about dumbing down the written test?

But the written tests have been dumbed down as well. You don't need to
answer as many questions over-all for the General and Extra as you used
to.

Are you ever capable of telling the truth?
My 1957 ARRL License Manual contains 279
Extra questions in 25 pages. My 2000 ARRL
Extra License Manual contains 439 questions
and 350 pages just for the Extra exam.

When you sit down at a VE test session the number of questions you have to
answer over-all to be a Tech, General, or Extra class is less than it used to
be and that's not including the questions lost when CW was dumbed down.

First off... this is coming from General... who was Grandfathered...

I know many people who are not Extras and who have not passed the 20wpm
that respect those OM very much. I love to sit at field day and watch
in awe at a CW operator. Just because I can't do it doesn't mean I
don't respect it. And there are many other people like that. So please
dont lump all of us "meaningless generals" into one please.
