Just got a note in the mail for license info
Why are they asking for my social security number? Have they got a shortage to dish out to illegal immigrants or is this only required for those who are providing a service for money? I really dislike the idea of giving out this personal information to non government employees. Also why are they asking for tel numbers and E mail addreses are they selling these lists to businesses for money? Am I going to now be flooded with solicitations from businesses to the same level I get charity requests. Note that they are also taking down credit card numbers to make it easy for identity theft I am beginning to think that what I have got in the mail is a scam and not a wise thing to fill out as I have no idea as to the security of the information. and to who really sent it to me . Could be another PAYPAL scam ! Art |

Someone queried Why are they asking for my social security number? The number is issued to an individual by the Social Security Administration, an agency of the federal government. Its primary purposes are to track individuals' Social Security benefits, and to track individuals for taxation purposes. In recent years the SSN has become a de facto national identification number. I said de facto.
Certainly SSN was not intended for ID - but try and get a driver license, Ham license, or bank account without giving your SSN. "Cecil Moore" wrote in message . com... Could be another PAYPAL scam ! Art Was it a solicitation to renew your license through a VEC? If so, don't do it; go online to the FCC site and renew for free in just a few minutes. License renewal does seem to require your SSN, though. If it was just a random request for info, why give it any more thought than you would any other junque mail? If they provided a post-paid return envelope, either (1) fill out the info with whatever you want (names like Donald Duck, and SSNs with too many or too few random digits work well), or (2) stuff it with all the other junque mail you have handy and drop it in a mail box (or both 1 and 2).
