Thanks NG!I Build it. 468 divided by Frequency in MegaHertz. Cut in half, Feed with 50 ohm coaxial cable. Hang up, talk on it. Number 14 stranded copper from your local Lowes/Home Depot do the trick. Don't have any 'real' insulators? Cut some from a hunk of PVC tubing. Use nylon 'chalk line' to hang it up with. Dan/W4NTI |

Take a piece of wire, divide the frequency you want to operate on in MHz in
to 468, cut the wire to this length in feet. Divide it into two pieces and put a center and 2 end insulators on it. Connect the coax, braid to one wire and the center conductor to the other. Invest the money you just saved in an amateur radio handbook. -- ----------------------------------------------------------- Monday January 19th is Robert E. My favorite dipole (that is factory-made) is the Icom AH-710. Broadbanded
(1.9 - 30 Mhz), 150 Watt , 3,1 kg, and just 24,5 meter long. 73 de SM4YRH "Frank MacKenzie-Lamb" skrev i meddelandet ... Anyone have any good sugesstions for dipoles brand or type (I won't be doing 80M...That's a long strech? Thanks NG!I |

Thanks NG!I Hi, Check here http://www.astrosurf.com/lombry/qsl-g5rv.htm If it needs a balun, that can be your "weakest point" in the system. try to not overload it (high SWR in emission) and protect the balun against moisture. 73's Thierry ON4SKY |
Brand?....BRAND??? C'mon, we're talking DIPOLES here! Get your wire cutters
and soldering iron. Frank, a G5RV antenna in its pure form is 102 feet long, and will give you 80-10 coverage. But it doesn't have to be 102 feet in a straight line. Put your feedpoint in the center of your cleared area; run the wires out as far as you can, out to your supports. Watever is left, take it down the support, run it along the top of the fence, tie it off to a tree, etc.. At this point, it's not really a G5RV any more. The trick to making this antenna work, is to feed it with twin lead, 300-600 ohm, and a good antenna tuner. In fact, with this system, the wire doesn't necessarily have to be 102 feet long, either - just make it as long as you can get it. And use a REAL center insulator, please. Budwig,, or Van Gorden, or one of those. This may just fit the bill. A while back I was looking for some good ladder-line and was steered in this direction. It's just as easy to get the entire doublet tho. Hope that helps, the 40m version has done a fine job for me in the past. http://www.w7fg.com/ant.htm 73 es GL de Bert, WA2SI |

Thanks NG!I Your best bet would be to go to www.arrl.org to order The ARRL Antenna Book from their store. About 700 pages for $30 or so. It covers all the popular wire antennas, as well as verticals and beams. To buy the insulators, wire and feedline you'll need to home build an antenna, go to net sites for The Wireman, RF Davis, etectera. It's hard to give you a "brand" for a dipole since they are all essentially the same, just wire and insulators. One isn't much better than any other. You might as well build your own. Get a good antenna book and you can try out a lot of different antenna ideas cheaply. Bob k5qwg |

It occurred to me after my posting that he might be blind or otherwise handicapped. Sorry if that's the case. It's possible, but not neccesarily so. Although I myself don't mind soldering up a dipole, I respect those who might want a ready-made example. I read something re. handicapped hams in this month's issue of WorldRadio. From the article 'Your CW fist on the air" by Dennis Franjlin, K6DF: "Don't be so quick to judge the other operator's operating skills since we do not know the circumstances under which they are operating." Not really related directly to the subject, but your comment jogged my memory and I thought it important enough to share. BTW Cecil, I'm going to give one of my Radio Works antennas a whirl this week. I'm putting up a SuperLoop 40 next week. I'll let you know how it plays. Take care, Cecil and again, GL Frank. :-) -- 73, Cecil http://www.qsl.net/w5dxp 73 de Bert WA2SI |
