Do you think no-codes give the impression that ham radio is just a bunch
of appliance operators?

Code or no-code it's largely been a bunch appliance operators having
their "slam bam thank you mam" QRM contests for the last 15 years. The
no-code situation is just going to exacerbate this. Just refer to it as
"CB extra class!"

JS, why are ya putting up with the "BS"? Let's forget him and start using
this group for what it was meant for. His comments are null and void. The
argument is a horse killed many times over. This has been going on for
"months". Time to move on. Nothing is going to change from this "crap" and
besides, he has yet to prove to anyone - he even had/has a license.

SC,
`Sounds to me that someone likes to stir the pot. . . Are you one
of them "Sensationalist" who like to do that? To see how much hate
and discontent one can whup up in the shortest amount of time?

This is a topic, much like abortions nowadays. . . There is no one
real answer and at any level, it's not that easy to answer. However,
I have a different approach to things:

Make the CB band licensable by a competency test and money for the
license, just like everything else on the radio level of things. That
way, the HAM's of who have heartburn of anybody NOT paying their dues
will have instant relief from their most personal, but most publicly
proclaimed issues.

I'm a technician class operator. Nothing special what so ever. In
fact, some even claim that to be nothing more than a Posh CB'er. . .
So what? I took the test and paid my bill. . . Whoopie-ding! I can
operate 2 meter and up. This is where it starts to get crappy:
I can howl and carry on, on the 11 meter band, (CB), or I can talk
to real "Jabber-Jaws" and "Drool Monsters" all day long on 2 meter,
(Just as bad or equal to CB'ers.) I can talk on higher frequencies
all day long with no issues, but to go UNDER 11 meters for Any reason,
I have to have a license that sayz that I can pound on a key in the
manor of reason to convey conscious thought to another. . .

Hey, check this out:

I don't want to `Key.
I don't have Any intent ever to `Key.
I am interested in phone FM and Sideband
Did I say that I'm not interested in the Key? And that I prefer
Phone?

So, what this amounts to is some old farts with a feather to wave in
the wind and listen to it whistle insists that I HAVE to learn the
"Key" before I can do what I want to do. And because they are LOOSING
PEOPLE AT SUCH A PROFOUND RATE, they had to drop the "Code
Requirement" to a REDICLOUSLY LOW SPEED of only 5 Words Per Minute!
FIVE WORDS PER MINUITE! Just to force me to do something I have
absolutely NO interest in what so ever, Just so they can hear the wind
whistle through their stupid feather! . . . Five words per minute is
just about worthless and truly amounts to nothing more than some one
forcing another person to do their bidding for no other reason that to
make it so.

It sounds like the "WeSaySo" corporation is in control of the FCC.
If this continues, just to keep people interested in radio, enough to
be able to FUND the governmental HOBBY, I can actually foresee the
requirement to be dropped to the level of:

1. Learning to key in "SOS" and "Pon Pon"
and
2. Showing a basic understanding of the "Q" codes
and maybe
3. A Two Dollar Bill bribe simply to accept the damn license to
justify the departments HAM branch very existence.

The big issue is something I can put into two simple words, "Cell
Phone". As a governmental person calmly explained to me, "Who the
hell cares about HAM radio anymore when EVERYBODY has ether a
satellite or cell phone?"

The only argument I could place against this as a retort is: "But
it's a state regulated hobby." . . Boy! Now THAT was an argument,
wasn't it?! That stopped the official with a silly smile on his face.
.. . Just before he broke into a laugh.

SO, I challenge YOU, Mr. SC, to do any better in trying to uphold
the unique and special place that the HAM radio operators Use To Hold,
nowadays against the onslaught of the cell phone landslide. . . (No
license, no test, just push a button and talk around the world. . .
Smile, its simple! Just PAY THE BILL.), against the hassles of fees,
testing, and pointless bull**** of just trying to be a HAM and trying
to set up an antenna. . . NOT to mention Having to learn a completely
obscure and arcane language of pulses, NEVER TO USE IT, but just so
one can simply to "TALK" like on a Cell Phone for the pure sake of
enjoying the arcane hobby of HAM radio?

Who needs the stinking headache from all the old
feather-waving-bozos when the HAM aspect of the FCC is dying for lack
of interest due to cell phones and the internet? Bottom line is that
the human race doesn't care about old **** nowadays, and HAM in that
light, is WAY ancient!

Forcing one to learn how to use Morris Code simply to use the Phone
bands of the frequencies is honestly some real petty bull**** put in
place by seriously demented, egotistical, fascist type of people. The
only purpose of this exercise is to allow these bullies, these
Committee members, to achieve an ill gotten and poorly timed erection
by saying "NO" to the rest of us, and making it stick. Nothing more
purposeful than simply preventing people, stopping people from doing
what they care to do, simply by exerting their poorly derived
authority.

As far as I am concerned, KEY is just as much a hobby as anything
else is. Open the bandwidth to all, but reserve some bandwidth
strictly to KEY and no body else. Stop forcing people to learn what
they do Not want to know or have the time to learn, especially when
they have absolutely NO interest in it, and it has absolutely NO
bearing on the their ability to function with their equipment.

Leave some bandwidth for KEY only, but don't shut off entire bands
from me just because I have no interest in Keying anything to anybody.

How about a positive suggestion?

I think that when we call anyone we should always identify our stations in CW.
There is no requirement to use SSB to identify when on SSB. So, try using CW for
all station ID requirements.

BTW, I'll slow down to 20 wpm.

Any interest?

Clip and paste to "Word for Windows". . . It's got the best spell

Yeah, but I have high speed. I can afford it. You, well now I understand why
you like CW so much. It goes well with the spark gap that you use...of
course most hams have real equipment, but you can only use what you can
kludge together with old beer cans and salvaged copper wire.
