If code is eliminated from the US requirements, will you quit amateur
radio?

If code is eliminated the riff-raff that will overrun the bands will drive
a lot of people out of amateur radio. It's bad now even with a 5wpm code.

Back when I got my license there was alot of technical discussions,
experimentation and lot of hams improving their communication and
technical skills. Now with 5 wpm, convertions are mainly about appliance
operating, or how someone did something stupid and burned up their rigs,
things just like you can hear on CB.

HAhaha! You are SO Stuck on the CB aspect of things.

Talk about a One Track Mind! Wow! You are SO Paranoid about this
`Slow.

Hey, think if it this way, and you MAY find peace in the
realization:

Real HAM Equipment costs BIG-BUCKS. LOTS of $$$, and is quite a bit
of a hassle to hook up properly and make work correctly. There is
naturally a learning curve in which people just Have to pay attention
to. That, as well as a pretty hefty drain on the ol' bank account.
Don't you agree?

Next realization is :
People are naturally LAZY, Stupid, and CHEAP!

SO, if you put it together, it goes something like this:

CB's are CHEAP and PLENTIFULL. They're EASY to set up and run. Plug
into the cigarette lighter, toss the antenna on the roof of the car,
push a button and talk into the mike. . . Pretty straight forward
and, well, stupid. Correct? And, did I mention their damn cheep?
$50 and you are on the air in grand style!

Ham radio. .. Humm, lets see now. Even at the "Lowest Level", you
actually have to sit down and read something! Oooh. . . That takes
effort! And, it's still going to cost over $200, JUST for the Radio.
Not very easy for a Red Necked Ratchet-Jaw to afford, (Who has trouble
just keeping beer in the 'fridge.) Next, one has to go and buy the
antenna too. .. Hummm. Another learning curve here again. What
type? Horizontal? Vertical?? And being that the system is pretty
darn sensitive to begin with, they have to take time, and again, LEARN
how to set it up properly to even transmit. And if they burn it up in
the process, WHO CARES?! They'll quit right there and then. That'd
be a Good Thing, huh?

Next there's learning the bandwidths, repeaters, and patches. Its
just not punching a button from 1 to 40 and listing to somebody talk
then joining in. . . One has to fiddle around with it and set the
particular frequencies and splits. Moreover, every region is
different, Unlike a CB. It's something that one just doesn't have
time to do while driving down the road, like blindly spinning the dial
on a CB. It's just too much hassle, work, time, learning, and
especially, WAY too much MONEY involved!

Slow, I guarantee you that if some how, they drop CW, HAM Will Not
Ever become like the CB is now. And for at least as many more reasons
as I brought to light here.

By the way Slow, "Paranoia" is a metal illness that's easily treated
with drugs. . .

------------ REPLY FOLLOWS ------------

I don't think that would end the endless harping about CW on this or
any other newsgroup. If it were ELIMINATED however, few if any would
be demanding it be brought back after a year or two had passed. It
would be a dead issue.

I hope.

Why do you anti-code test people always spew the same dumb ass arguments
all the time? The repeaters went down hill after the code requirement was
eliminated for use of those bands. Hardly anything technical at all. Most
of the retards up there aren't moving forward tecchnically. What makes
you thing the same thing won't happen on HF? It will happen there too.
We'll have fewer quality operators.

You say the things you do just like all the other dumb it downers say,
You think CW is preventing the growth of amateur radio, and it needs to
modernize. The CW requirement isn't preventing the growth of amateur
radio, Laziness is.

If a multi-engine instrument rating were required for ALL pilots ...

If a great figure were required for ALL who lounge by the pool
....

If a $45,000 wedding were required for ALL couple who fall in love ...

If a fillup were required by ALL cars who pull into a gas
station ...

If a perfect 100% score were required to pass ALL exams ...

If ALL babies had to be cute ...

If a little empathy could be instilled in ALL the Morsies ...

(Oh, maybe I overreached with that last one -- sorry.)
