RRAA connection to Agent through Earthlink

For years I have used Agent for communicating with
rec.radio.amateur.antenna. My cable connection is with Brighthouse, who
connects with Earthlink for accessing the news groups.

However, on Dec 8 my connection stopped adding headers to Agent. The
msg at the bottom left corner of the screen initially says 'connected',
but then immediately says 'finished retrieving new headers', but no new
headers appear.

I finally found this way to access rraa through a Google entry. Can
anyone tell me what is wrong with the connection to Agent through
Earthlink for the newsgroups?

Hi Walt,
The problem occurred because you are on a new server, and it has numbered
the articles in the newsgroup differently. Most likely your Agent software
think you have read (for example) up through message number 20,000, but the
new server calls that article number 200. So it thinks you have already
seen message 200.

The solution is to unsubscribe to the antenna newsgroup and then
resubscribe. Then you can retrieve all of the articles that your new server
has.

Hope this helps. And congratulations on the QST article. Very interesting.

The news server is busted and the idiots that work there can't fix it!
They haven't add a group in years and have forgotten how to fix it.
I dumped the bums and am now with Worldnet.att

Walt:

Set up a news account with news.aioe.org as news server. This is a free
news server and is quite quick in posting/downloading posts.

Even if you fix your present problems, never hurts to have backup.

JS

The EL news server has been bad for months and was down most of the weekend. For
months now the completion rate for large binary files has been under 10% and
mostly unusable. Some years back I left MSN because they abandoned their news
service and went to EL who now seems to be doing the same thing. My guess is
that they really don't care because very few of their customers even know what
Usenet is these days. I agree with helmsman, go for an outside service...
