Yaesu Rotor chattering
Any idea what causes my Yaesu G-1000 rotor control box to chatter or
buzz after the rotor comes to a stop? This happens if it is rotated to a position using the automatic feature (where you set a position and hit a button and the rotor goes there and stops). It's as if the rotor might be moving back and forth at a high rate, and the controller is trying to correct for it. Rick K2XT |

Rick K2XT if its only when using the preset feature then its likely the circuit that nulls the voltage difference between the pot in the rotor and the preset pot in the control box. just press the rocker switch and it should stop. |

just press the rocker switch and it should stop.
If I press the off switch it stops it also (naturally !). And when I power back on the problem is gone, until I go to a new antenna position with the preset function. I tried your suggestion and it worked. So it is now just a bit annoying in that I have to wait till the antenna gets to the preset position automatically, and then reach up and hit the switch. Ok, I will live with that. Thanks Dave Rick |

Thanks Dave Rick think of it as an alarm that lets you know the antenna is in position and ready to use! i haven't been in to that part of their control circuit, and since they don't label stuff very well on the schematic i would only be guessing... but the first thing i would check is that you have good connections on the indicator pins of the cabling. and check for leakage from the indicator pot to ground that could indicate water in a connector or cable. either of those may upset the balance of the nulling circuit they use. |

Every G-800 and G-1000 rotor I have seen does the same thing, so don't think
it is a problem with water or ground, just the way they are. |

I have never seen mine do it. My G-2700 did. Then the aluminum clamp failed. I've repaired the damage and am awaiting the crane. The replacement rotor? http://www.m2inc.com/products/rotors/or28002.html This and the Yaesu are "rated "similarly. You be the judge. 73 H. NQ5H |
