Rohn 25G question

I have two 10' sections of 25G where the spacing
between posts is the specified 11.25" at the bottom
but is only 11" at the top. These sections will not
fit together. Does anyone know anything about 25G
sections with 11" spacing between the upper posts?
The 11" spacing is too precise to be an accident.

Never heared of tapered 25G.
Sounds like two identical sections of a free-standing tower.
Or a Rohn QA reject.

Sounds more like a torqued tower section.

You really need to have a man to man discussion with the seller of the
tower sections.. Start by marching into his establishment and firing a
couple of rounds of Colt 45 into the ceiling... This will set the tone
for the discussion to follow...

I got them for $20 each used from an individual ham in
AZ about ten years ago. Don't remember his name or call.
I think I can use a car jack to bring them back to the
specified spacing. I should have tried the fit while
they were on the ground rather than 40 feet in the air. :-)

Same thing happened to me this summer. I put up 4 sections by myself and it
went fine. Then with some help on the ground pulling up the next 2
sections, the leggs did not drop in. I did not measuer them but the leggs
did not seem to match by a small ammount. I used a home made version of the
Tower Jack to force the sections together and then pull them down to the
bolt holes matched. Actually had to drill out the holes as they did not
match exectally either. Not much off, maybe 1/8 of the hole diameter.
Could not get the holes to line up even with a big drift or punch.

I have two sections with identical 11" spacings,
1/4" out of spec. It's too consistent to be an
accident. I wonder if a batch was manufactured
out of spec?

Rohn 25G question

I expect that the support bracing is bent and if you straighten it the
problem will go away. Sounds like someone was a little rough with these
sections.

Nope, the bottom of the tapered section is the
specified 11.25". Somewhere between the beginning
and end of the 4" tapered section is where the
problem occurs. And two sections are virtually
identical which would seem to rule out any
accident.

Rohn 25G question

Cecil,

Rohn 15 is tapered at the top of the sections to fit inside of the bottom
.... I don't recall the exact dimensions, but the top, tapered part should be
"concentric" with the bottom of the next section and fit inside.
(you may already know all of this and may be describing something different)
