Radiation Pattern Measurements

I have begun a project to try to record antenna radiation patterns of my
antenna, using NOAA polar orbiting satellites as the illuminator. I am
just starting to get data that shows the idea is feasible. The antenna
constructed for 137 MHz, which is the satellite frequency. The received
signal strength is recorded from the DC in the IF part of the receiver, so
that is an S-Meter reading.
So far, I am able to get Excel to grind out "patterns" as a function of
Time. When I get more precise, I'll relate Angle to Time so more
meaningful plots can be drawn.

It is likely that this method of recording real radiation patterns has
been done by someone, somewhere. I am now trying to understand how I can
correct the data to account for the path loss, which can be as high as 12
dB.

My question is, does anyone know of anyone who has already done the math
for supporting data acquisition like this "satellite illuminated pattern
range". I'm running short on brain power.

Jerry
