Flexible/Durable FM Antenna for Jeep?

I have destroyed several stock antennae on my Jeep during trail rides
when they get snagged by brush and easily bent. I went to a short
(maybe 1' long)flexible type, but my reception absolutely sucks now.
Can anyone suggest a car-type antenna that will have good reception,
but can take a hit? I'd prefer to use it in the original place as I
already have a hole in the body, but one of the amplified -inside-the-
winshield type might be an option if it is worth anything.

Nope - it's a CJ. I guess "stock" may be a misnomer, as I'm not sure
what originally came on this thing. I was referring to the common
metal tube types.

I'm not really sure - standard AM and FM reception, but mostly FM
(around 88 to 108 MHz?).

Its been a long time since I did any 4 wheeling but I had the same
problem back in the 70s and found that replacing the stock antenna
with a 4 ft fiberglass top loaded CB antenna worked great. Seems like
back then they had a mount just for doing this that replaced the
factory antenna. Dont know if you can still get one or not. My nephew
does this sort of thing and after replacing a couple of CD players he
keeps all his music on an iPOD and plugs it into his broken CD player.

So a CB antenna will work with AM/FM as well? I'm already running a
CB with a 4' antenna - any chance I could use some sort of splitter
and have that one antenna serve both the CB and the AM/FM radio, or
will that screw something up?

I`ve used a stainless steel whip about 28 inches long. This was off the
shelf available and is about 1/4-wave at 100 MHz. It worked OK for both
AM and FM and survived the stress.
