HT antenna problem

I have an ICOM W32A HT. Whenever I try to connect an external antenna (such
as an Arrow Satellite Antenna) I get no TX or RX. It seems to work fine with
the rubber duck. Anyone else had this problem? Do you think the radio needs
repair? Thanks! This is my FIRST post on this newsgroup. KE5IQM

Sounds like the connector on you ant cable is bad, or is shorting out the
center conductor to the shield. Did you install the connector yourself or
did it come already installed when you bought the external antenna?
If you installed the connector - you need to take it off of the radio and
OHM it out.. if you purchased the antenna and the connector was already
installed - I would send it back and get another one..

I would check the antenna, coax and the connector going into your Ht.

It may be as simple as a bad connector/ adaptor.

Connector type?? IF bnc, they have a habit of
breaking the center pin in the females. also, make
sure you have a center pin , in your EXTERNAL
antenna. Also, happens in "F" connectors, and
can have connection problems with stud mounts!
If have, try a Field Strength meter, near your
antenna, with it connected to the radio. Might
be surprised! Jim NN7K
