Connecting coax shield to tower near top
Many have advised connecting the shield of the coax to the tower up near the top. Doesn't the connection to the antenna take care of that, assuming that the shield connection at the antenna connector is grounded (some aren't, I think that most are)? Also, one is supposed to connect the coax shield to the tower again near the bottom, where the coax leaves the tower. What is the best way to do that without damaging the coax or leaving its innards open to the elements? |

Put up by a pro, and works just fine. - 73 de Mike KB3EIA - |

This method is even on the ARRL pages in a Power Point presentation on Lightning Protection for the Radio Amateur at http://www.arrl-al.org/LtgProt-2006.ppt You want to ground the shield at the tower top, again at the tower bottom, (see the photos) and then at an entrance panel outside the shack entrance. Barrel connectors will do, seal them with Coax-Seal. 73, Bill KC9CS |
