Gaussian antenna details DIY

Since there is little interest in the academic details fo the gaussian
antenna
I have decided to add in depth details of the elements used so one
can
easily make one in half a day. A single element can ofcourse be used
as a
a separate antenna and will put to bed the negative comments from the
naysayers.

OK, I bit. That google search had 94,800 results. Can you narrow it down a
bit?

Hi Arthur,

You mean like the -64 dBi gain reported by others?

Hey, I've got an antenna here that does way better than that on 2m. And
its SWR is dead flat up to 3ghz.

Well of course.. people have been running dipoles for years.
I've heard few negative comments about dipoles though.
Are people having trouble running those these days?

As usual... A big nada...
I see links, but nothing from you, except a link to this post
already...
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search
Most rational people give a direct link to whatever it is they are
pawning off to the public... Not a google search adventure.
Actually here in Tejas, they usually describe directing people to
something like that as "sending people on a turdhunt". :/
You have to realize that most rational people out in google land that
use
the name "gaussian antenna" are talking about a whole different animal
than whatever it is you are talking about. Links to their jibber
jabber is
not useful to your cause. Please reboot and try again.
BTW, how would an "English" gaussian array differ from say
a "French" gaussian array? Do they make "Indonesian" gaussian arrays?
Would they have inferior efficiency vs an "English" gaussian array?
How bout "Australian" gaussian arrays? Do they cluster backwards,
and a few hours ahead of everyone else? Would those work better
if you poured some of that nasty tasting Fosters beer on them?
Demented minds wanna know the answers to these imposing
questions.
MK

Hi Arthur,

The actual details:

"antenna element circuit must be a TANK CIRCUIT"

Nothing said as to why (especially when other radiators work fine
without being a TANK CIRCUIT).

"element that has equal amounts of inductance and capacitance"

Notable in the violation of simple units (Henry does not equal Farad)

"requires a conductive length of insulated wire
( insulated from other windings) wound helically"

The notorious air cooled resistor - hence the -64 dBi gain.

Arthur even admits a special construction technique necessary for the:
"removal of the excessive heat from the radiator"

Further evidence of the poor results (i.e. -64 dBi gain).

"For a radiator in the 2 Mhz region
dimensions of the radiator will be in the order of
20 inches in diameter and
25 inches in height
tho these dimensions can be varied with respect to each other
dependent on frequency and materials used."

Classic dummy load.

"a tank circuit max radiation will occur when the capacitive
and inductive components are as large as possible ...

Called a conventional dipole?

... to achieve speeder release of energy."

Faster than light anyone? Or faster than friction? I would hate to
think the Neanderthals died out because they lacked a TANK CIRCUIT to
start a fire (although I am sure they could spell better).

Google with Art's suggested keywords didn't do any more for me than it
did for you; I even looked through the first few pages of results,
down to where I was "in the noise". I figured maybe he meant his
short article "Radiation_a_thesis.rtf" that you can get through
http://users.sdsc.edu/~unwin/, but looking at today's version of that
article was no help. Maybe I just haven't learned to read well enough
yet between the lines...

I'm sad that someone who apparently wishes sincerely to communicate
puts so many barriers in the way of communication.

Cheers,
Tom
