W8JK station on the air

The callsign of famous antenna inventor John Kraus W8JK will be in
special operation from now thru Aug 25. The John Kraus Memorial Amateur
Radio Club now has that callsign. In addition, today is the 30th
anniversary of the discovery of the famous WOW! signal by the Ohio State
University Radio Observatory, so the callsign used is W8JK/WOW.

There is also an announcement on the ARRL web pages, under special
events. QST inadvertently left it out of this month's published special
events.

Operation will be intermittent, primarily evenings and weekends, and
more so during the Ohio QSO party on Aug 25. Announcements will be made
on the DX cluster occasionally when the station is on the air.

Complete information about this operation, the club station, the WOW!
signal and the OSU Radio Observatory can be found at
http://www.w8jk.org and the links there.

Please forward this information to anyone you feel would be interested.

Thanks!

Dear Bob:

Great news. Professor Kraus was a great engineer, a fine person, and
the best mentor to me. It is wonderful that you, and your crew, are helping
to keep alive what he has taught us all.
