Mobile antennas

What approximately is the wire size that manufactures
have gyrated towards for whips or mobile antennas
capable of the legal limit. Have heard some mobile
stations on the air using the max power and it got
me to wondering
TIA

Well, To *me*, I would want at LEAST #14 gauge. Of course, the large the
better. The rule of thumb, I believe is approximately one wire diameter per
turn. That would equate to the #14 wound at 8 turns per inch, and 12 @ 6
TPI and so on.
