Peruse the archives over using a pair of mobile whips as a dipole... denny OK. Problem with avoiding this is that I do not go back and read archives everytime I see a post on which I may comment...... I did not remember seeing this one before.... Ed K7AAT |

I haven't been monitoring the group for a while. Wondering if anyone has considered two screwdriver type antennas mounted horizontal in a dipole fashion in the attic and appropriate control to acheive a tuneable attic dipole. stealth in CCR is the motivation. Hi John, I am also in a deed restricted community and share your pain. Here is what I did for HF - I installed an Inverted L antenna that goes up and over one tree (approx 30' high) and across to a second tree (approx 75'). It is fed at the base with a SG-230 Smartuner. The 'second' half of the antenna is 59 ground mounted radials that go out in straight lines and vary in length between 35' and 75' based on how long I could run them to the property line or other obstruction. The ground radials were stapled to the turf every couple of feet and are now invisible. The only visible part of the antenna is the horizontal wire running between the two trees, but because of the way my lot, house and other trees are arranged in the backyard, the wire is only visible from my back porch! The antenna works quite well on 160 - 10 meters, and is a big improvement over previous attempts to make something work in the attic because it is outside, well clear of the house everything inside that generates RFI. I got advice on the radial system from Tom, W8JI and Rudy, N6LF and their great web sites listed below. For 6 and 2 meters sideband/cw I have Par Omniangle 'loop' antennas installed on a pole that I placed in one of the tress in the backyard. The 6 meter antenna is at 20' and the 2 meter one at 15'. All three feedlines are buried where they run from the base of the tress to the house entry point. A little more info plus a couple of pictures are on my web site. http://mysite.verizon.net/resxgopw/k3td/ http://www.w8ji.com/ http://www.antennasbyn6lf.com/ Good luck and 73, Tad Danley, K3TD EM10dq |
