I hate to totally block people who arguably have some useful things to post
to the newsgroup. But the content on the thread about travelling waves versus standing waves has become so dominated by one person that there is no way to end it except by filtering all messages to rec.radio.amateur.antennas to eliminate the dominant poster. So I have not only blocked articles from his web site, I am blocking any article which contains his name. So if you reply to him, I am sorry but I will not be able to see your remarks. I know that no one is likely to lose any sleep about my actions. From now on, I hope there will be articles about antenna construction and modelling because that will probably be all that I am able to read. 73. Ken Fowler, KO6NO |

Ken Fowler, KO6NO Hello Ken, From your comment, it appears that you are seeing all new posts to the group in chronological order. That can be very frustrating. You may not be aware that most newsreaders will sort messages by thread if so instructed. That way an entire thread consisting of even thousands of posts will appear in your newsreader as a single header (unexpanded). There are usually no more than a few new threads per day on the newsgroup so you can choose which threads you want to follow without seeing any posts to the threads that don't interest you. Sort of like scanning the headlines. When you see a thread of interest, you can expand it and see the headers of all the posts in that thread. You can't control which threads are posted to the newsgroup, but you can make it easier to read only those that interest you. 73, Chuck NT3G ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

And, _that_ would be a Great Loss .... how? Using a Real Newsreader, you could block by Subject: (as well as by poster.) I find that even before I read a new troll posting, it is _easily_ identifiable by both Subject: content and poster id. I mark it for killing (by Subject ![]() anything in that thread again. Some logic if the poster is killfiled here and I don't see the Subject: until the first followup to the troll. Sigh. Over the years this Once Great ng covering antennas has been slowly overtaken by a handful of twits. Sorry to top post (just wanted to get your attention), but while you're at
it, can you do anything about this M I-5 (& variations thereof). I've been putting in message rules but they don't seem to work. Talk about abuse. HankG "Ken Fowler" wrote in message ... Mine is Agent, so I can answer for it. I used the free version a dozen years ago, and bought the commercial version right away. It allows for "regular expressions" in filters. With very few of them, they wipe out a lot of trash. Of course, you have to be a *nix wizard to know how to craft "regular expressions" but it also has simpler rule structures that can cover a lot of ground too. 73's Richard Clark, KB7QHC |
