Antenna "chalking" ?

Hi, i have a 2/70 verticle that is "chalking" on the outside of the
white section. I think this is the right term for it. If you grab it
white powdery remnants stay on your hands or clothes. How do you go
about fixing this? Wash with soap and water then spray enamel on it maybe?

Antenna Painting Instructions

The following is courtesy Celwave This is what I received when I asked

them for a recommendation of what to use in refinishing my 18 year old

PD455

Celwave receives requests for advice about refinishing weathered antenna
radomes or changing the radome color for aesthetic

reasons. We do not take a position on any manufacturer's paint. However,
Sherwin-Williams seems to make a product, which

should be compatible with radomes and not interfere with the antenna's
electrical performance. The following suggestions are

not a substitute for detailed instructions and mix ratios provided by the
paint manufacturer.

RADOME MATERIAL (Standard Color)

SURFACE PREPARATION:

Removal of surface contamination is normally accomplished by using an

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

Painting to be done indoors, as the uncured product is sensitive to
moisture. Apply one coat of Polane 2.8 Plus Spray Fil

D61H75 Primer. It is designed to fill and/or hide profile and surface
imperfections on metal castings, structural foam, plastic and

wood. Apply one coat of Polane HS 2.8 Plus Polyurethane Enamel Monochromatic
Intermix Color System F63 Series.

acrylic enamel auto paint. I did a camo paint job and the neighbors
thought I took yhe antenna down.

UV deterioration. Sand and use white Acrylic enamel. I have used it on
masts and Coax too. I have used other light Satin colors for camo effect
with no harm. Darker pigments may detune.

Actually white acrylic enamel can have more of an effect than you might
think. It is because titanium dioxide pigment is used to achieve the white
color. Depending on the anatase/rutile ratio, the dielectric constant of
titanium dioxide can range from 80 to 110. That of the acrylic paint
without pigment typically is around 3.4. Other pigments can also have an
effect, but avoid any paint containing metallic particles.

I suggest using something like Crystal Clear Krylon® or similar products.
By the way, acrylic paint has excellent ultraviolet resistance.
