Maldol HVU-8 antenna

Just been reading the Radcom review (Jan 2004) and QST (Sept 2003) on the Maldol HVU-8 antenna and
wondered if anyone here is using one - looks quite good on the face of it. Any comments on overall performance would be appreciated
especially as a restricted space antenna.

Hi Trevor,

It looks like it would be 2-5% efficient at 80M to 20-50% efficient at
the higher bands. Your full size dipole or monopole with a ground
radial system of 8-10 10M wires would start at 50% (or better).

Efficiency isn't the entire picture; how close to ground is another.
In other words, once your efficiency got you out beyond the radiator,
what is the ground loss look like? The closer you are, the worse.
Get it up high and things may work quite well. The difference between
full sized and this may be a couple of S-Units (better than the
difference being many S-Units) for the low band.

Hello,

It seems to be a good compromise for multiband from 15m to 70cm.
But keep in mind that there's no miracle antenna!
