Kind of off topic, but I know someone in here can help me. I have a
VHF/UHF TV antenna that is about a year old. I always got great reception with it, but now my VHF reception is horrible while my UHF reception is still good. Anyone have any ideas? I have tried replacing the cable and re-grounded the antenna but the problem remains. It seems to have been getting worse and worse over the last few months. Thanks, Dan KE5BCC |

Have you visually inspected the antenna itself for either broken
elements or the phasing line that connects the coax to the antemma elements. I would start there... Scott N0EDV Dan wrote: Kind of off topic, but I know someone in here can help me. I did inspect the antenna. Nothing appears to be broken. I even
changed out and reattached the matching transformer. Dan Scott wrote in message .. . Look for a pulled out center conductor in the cable. You're describing something that's acting like a capacitor in series with the line, passing higher frequencies better than lower ones. Also, most antennas like this have a UHF and a VHF section, there may be some mechanical problem with the VHF section, even if you can't see it from the ground. |

Ah, good point! I was fixated on the antenna end when I offered up
advice to Dan. Being that it has been getting worse GRADUALLY, you have a very good point...may be in the TV tuner itself. Hate when THAT happens! Dan Hi Dan, Then it is time to look at the other end. There are usually separate paths to the VHF and UHF tuners - although this may have been obsoleted in the years since I've bought a TV. As such, the VHF tuner may have been zapped. There may also be a splitter involved or other pathing issue. Try substituting another TV to confirm it is in fact the antenna system at fault. 73's Richard Clark, KB7QHC |
