Because it takes two USB ports, it obviously contains one USB WLAN stick and additionally one WLAN booster. When using one uSB only it will work as standard stick. I don't consider dbi a trick, just another standard of measurement. If you use dbd you are comparing to a dipole which has 2.15 db gain over an isotropic antenna.
