Update! Filing FCC comment against BPL

The information about filing a FCC BPL comment on the ARRL web page was
outdated. There is a new case number that should be used. 04-37 is the
correct case number.

It only takes 5 minutes to file a comment with the FCC against BPL.

This looks FAKE, so you may want to go to the FCC site directly instead of
using his link.
Message-ID looks forged as well
Could be gathering addresses for spamming.

Can you say P A R A N O I D ????

The link on the guy's web site to file a comment IS the FCC's web
site:

http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/ecfs/upload_v2.cgi

The instructions on the ARRL web site to file a comment take you to
the exact same web site.

ARRL sez:

Goto http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/ecfs/

and click SUBMIT A FILING

which takes you to:

http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/ecfs/upload_v2.cgi

Turn in your badge, Dick Tracy, you are getting paranoid in your
old age. Anybody who wants to send HAM SPAM can get thousands
of email addresses from QRZ.com, no need to collect them one
at a time by having people fill out forms.

Speaking as one who is fighting spyware on my computer, I vote WITH
the guy who's suspicious of a strange url that shows up in a newsgroup.
Use of strange urls is hardly confined to spammers.

You should look at Linux or Mac so you can regain the use of your
computer. You should own your computer and not vis-versa!

;-)

Here is the webpage in plain ASCII text with a link to the FCC website.
Please, making a comment will only take a few minutes.

/**********************************************/

The FCC has extended the comment period for BPL. If you value radio, this
may be the last and only chance to have your voice heard to stop BPL from
destroying your hobby. The FCC has extended the comment period for BPL.

It is VERY simple to file a FCC comment. Click the link below and enter

04-37

in box #1 (proceeding number) and fill in the blanks. The simplest way to
comment is to type your comment into the box on the bottom of the form.
Sample comment below.

http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/ecfs/upload_v2.cgi

If you see fit, please post this to as many portent groups as possible
because numbers count!

More info at http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2004/02/12/5/?nc=1

If you can't think of any thing to type or wish to make this as painless
as possible, you can cut-n-paste the comment I typed below.

/******************************/

In Writing, I wish to persuade the FCC from allowing BPL to be
implemented. The destruction or at the least, deterioration of the
shortwave bands is not only a violation of ITU laws that protect
international broadcasters from interference and jamming, it will be
destroying many people's life hobby. Amateur radio will be reduced to
users with high-power amplifiers and large antennas. Emergency
communications will be hindered to levels directly responsible for the
loss of life. Also, this will hinder military HF comms reducing national
security

There are many technologies that make BPL unnecessary. BPL will never be
able to carry the high bandwidth demands for mass distribution of video
much less the up-and-coming HDTV.

Thank You!

Nahhh, let 'em all feel superior due to their "installed user base".
While the whole time they spend more and more of their efforts and
energy fighting off their inferior OS's security holes, we that use the
"non-standard" systems can simply do our work and play.

Well, maybe we can learn something here.

What do you see that's "strange" about the URL above ?

Looks like a subdomain of http://www.fcc.gov to me.....

Let's not start this again, let's argue about something important,
like Morse code. Ain't enuff of you Apple Suckers and Penguin Pluckers
to be worth arguing with.

We need a new O/S, just for ham radio. We could call it Macnix. The
logo could be a roasted penguin with an apple in his mouth. And there
wouldn't be any application software so nobody would ask questions
about how to use it.....
