A cheap tower for antennae?
 
As the aluminium (aluminum for the Leftpondians) ladder is expected to
hold the weight of a person at the top end, I wonder if any have
been pressed into practice as antennae towers?

Of course they have. We've also used ladders on Field Day:

Now, how about using 4 (or even 5, easier to erect) ladders as a broadband
groundplane for the HF bands?
