what justify so high price... nothing

Hi,

Compare these prices for the Cuschcraft MA5B :
http://www.durhamradio.com/cushcraft-ma5b.htm $599

http://www.chq-inc.com/asp/details.a...=MA5B&man=cush, less than $400

The first deny any eplanations, so someone could help me to understand why
Keith sold this antenna at such a price...

Thanks in advance.

I suspect a problem of currency, but the dealer refuses to explain and keep
a deep fog around its advertisings.
Not smart. I prefer to go away, for example to CHQ...

Any info about this price difference is welcome to complete the information

Same reason prices are different at different places on almost
everything. WHATEVER THE MARKET WILL BEAR!

Why is plain salt $1.69 at Kroger and .98 at WalMart?

Why is soda at retail pricing normally 21 cents for 12 ounces at a
store or $2.24 per gallon retail if you look at it that way. But at a
restaurant (who buys it wholesale also, just as the store does) why do
they sell it for over $17.00 per gallon? Any price over 99 cents,
which represents 1000% markup is extortion on soda products!

The first dealer is based in Canada and the second is in the USA

$599 Canadian = $446 US which isn't too far away from the $380 price that
CHQ are selling at considering (I believe) a generally higher cost of living
in Canada.

My experience with the IC-2100H:

Had to replace a failing (25 year old) packet link radio.
Checked eBay, they were selling for $150 - $180 "New In Box".
Checked HRO, AES, etc. on the web.
Prices were $149 - $169 plus shipping.
Drove to Portland HRO, asked about price.
Store owner checked computer, looked at the big
pile of 2100Hs on the shelf, picked up a box, put it
on the counter and said "How about $135?".

Of course I bought some other stuff as well ;-)

Hi Thierry,

Manufacturer builds and sells (on average) to distributor (CHQ,
durhamradio, or Joe's Tap Dancing Academy) for $300. Manufacturer who
also advertises, offers MSRP (Manufacturer's "suggested" retail price)
or $599. This is only a "suggestion" but it establishes the "market
price."

Distributor #1 can sell for this price (customer pays the price
because that is what is advertised). Distributor #2 can sell for
more (customer tries to go to Manufacturer instead but is told to buy
through Distributor). Distributor #3 can sell for less (customer
abandons Distributors #1 and #2 like you). Everyone sells antennas
and is happy.

Soon Distributor #2 sells less than others and goes out of business
unless he has no bid contract to sell antennas for Halliburton.
Distributor #2 pays kick-back to Halliburton. Halliburton charges the
Taxpayer more money for "handling fees" and is twice as happy.
Congress over-appropriates funds for black project that Halliburton is
managing (for a fee) without oversight; and the price of the antenna
(on average) rises to $1200. $120 (10%) finds its way back into the
pockets of Republicans and they are happy. Instead of spending it to
generate local jobs, they put their money into off-shore investments
that are tax sheltered companies holding government contracts, and the
cycle starts all over again (happier yet).

Explanation: Capitalism (or the zero job growth economic boom).

Now wait a minute Dave, what about all those Republican capitalist
infidels and the offshore accounts? That thread was just great! You're
just gonna let it go with this explanation, "please note: (sic) canadian

why it costs us, the American Taxpayer, more money for them damn Cushcrafts!

I believe one thing that drives up the prices on all this mil grade equipment
is requirments for measured drawings so these things can be repaired or
replaced
when in service. For example on ship or sub there is machine shops to fix
things
or fabricate replacement parts.

If they put $ 600 toilet seats in b1 bombers, wonder how much the ones
in the White House or AF-1 cost ?

I know someone who used to work at Boeing. That $600 toilet seat came
about because after the airplane was designed the Air Force came back
with a requirement that necessitated (a) a total redesign of the whole
interior of the aircraft or (b) narrowing the lav to the point where a
stock seat from a 747 wouldn't fit anymore. $600 per seat was cheaper
than ripping the whole thing out and redoing it.

The other thing that drives the price up on mil grade equipment is that
there's not much of it made. When you are Ford and can count on making
100,000 cars a year you can spend a _lot_ of money on engineering,
because it'll be divided by 100,000 when you figure the price of the
car. When you're Raytheon and you can only count on selling 100 systems
before you need to make something different it would cost the customer
many more $$ to engineer the production cost down than it does to just
build things stout enough to work without worry.
