direct TV ant and ham radio
Hi Group,
Can anyone tell me what gain I could expect on 70cm and 905MHz and higher amateur bands using a 19 inch direct TV ant disk? Is the LNA in the dish convertable to something close to any amateur bands? Tnx de KJ4UO |
Short , simple answer : FORGET IT ! TVRO dish, the 6-8 foot variety,
sort of work, at 1296 (13 centimeters), but even they not much good below that frequency. Ill leave it to your immagination just how much LOSS one of those 18 inch (foot and 1/2) dishes would have at 432 !! Oh, and b.t.w., these 18 inchers, work at around 18 GHz , some 11-13
times the frequencies you wish to operate at- nearest band to it is 22 GHz band, but doubtful you could retune it to work! Jim Jim - NN7K wrote: Short , simple answer : FORGET IT ! The DIRECTV and Dish Network antennas receive in the 11 to 12GHZ range
and someone (very) clever could probably mod the LNB for 10GHz amateur use. These 18" reflectors start getting useful at about 2.4GHZ on up, below that I would agree with Jim.
