If any antenna (short or otherwise) radiates all the power that is fed to
it, how come there can be a standing wave on the antenna when the non-radiated energy reflects from the open end? |

Taking the case of the Marconi 1/4 wave vertical, that standing wave exists all the way back to the feedpoint, showing that even the reflected wave had not been fully radiated. So, what happens to the remains of that reflected wave when it arrives at the feedpoint, a point which others have argued has an impedance match, a match that is reciprocal, so why does not that reflected wave go back down the feeder creating a VSWR? |
