ATU setting up seems to be a matter of suck-it-and-see, even
on the part of the auto ATUs (which are made for for
CBers-masquerading-as-radio-amateurs
because _REAL_ radio amateurs have no qualms about twiddling knobs
themselves)

I wonder if anyone takes a more scientifc approach by measurement and then
calculation, such as by Smith Chartification?

REAL radio amateurs know that the best place for an antenna tuner is
at the base of the antenna, which makes "twiddling knobs" a bit difficult.

Such would require increased complexity in the hardware and software and
also require periodic calibration.

Ever heard of the KISS principal?

Buying something is not the problem. The problem comes when we believe,
for that moment, that the object we’re buying is going to make us happy.

Ever heard of a spell checker? It's *principle*.

Your posts would carry more weight if you took a moment to proof-read

It is posts like yours that prevent me from wasting the time to proof
read USENET posts as I figure there will always be some anal retentive
fixated on pointing out common typos.

Jim, I'd killfiled Jim Pendulumino because he's like a Yank version of Brian
Reay M3OSN.

That is, always pooh-poohing, always sneering. always free with rude
comments and
without a kind word for anyone.

Sounds like many "Class A's" hereabouts.
