Jpole tuning?

Hello All
Considering using a Jpole antenna for 2 meters
I plan to mount it on top of a 40 ft tower
I've read that it should be tuned where it will
permantently reside, The area is in a big field on a hill
Can I just mount it on the top 10ft section, tune then
put it on the tower?
Any hints and tricks regarding tuning a jpole would
be great!
Thanks in advance
Regards

Use a J146/440 from A HREF="http://ArrowAntennas.com/"ArrowAntennas.com/A
then you
don't have to tune it, just put it up.
Also use if for 440 if you want.

Spend the money and put a dual band gain ant up there,
youll never regret it.

Your idea will work just fine. The J-pole is a wide-band antenna and the
only adjustments needed is the coax tap point (or gamma adjustment if
you're using that type of match) but as long as your swr is reasonable,
leave it alone.
