Supporting 450 ohm feeders across an open area
I am looking for a way to run 450 ohm wire to a tower approximately 50
feet away from the shack. The tower is only 32 feet high, but I plan on doing one of Cebik's (or is it Cecil's) rotatable 44 foot dipoles fed with open wire feeders. I'm wondering what some of you have done to support a run of open wire feeders to stop it from flopping in the wind. Thread some rope through the windows of the feed line? Thanks. |
Terry,
Ever seen the 'ribbon' type banners? When you do, you'll notice they are twisted to form sort of a spiral. Part of the reason is because the 'spiral' sort of averages the ribbon's cross-area over a long span. Do the same with your ladder line, twist it. It'll still flop around a little but nothing like a straight run of it will. How to support it over a 50 foot span? Depending on the size of conductors used, it ought to support it's self. There's no real need for large conductors, either. A #18 hard drawn copper wire will support much more than it's own weight. Shouldn't be a problem unless you hhappen to get some very high winds...
