Nothing like stating the obvious. But then that assumes this group used
to be functional. Was this a viable group before QRZ polluted it?

Perhaps what you desire is a moderated ng where someone gets to decide
what is and what's not appropriate for posting. I never liked that idea
but some folks consider it an anti-spam measure. Does your newsreader
have a killfiles option? Just set it to automatically send posts you
don't want in your inbox to the trash. Problem solved. Sincerely, and
73s from N4GGO,

uk.radio.amateur.moderated is, IMO, a very good newsgroup.

Killfiles cannot deal with all the posts that never get posted because
the potential posters have been deterred from using the newsgroup
because of all the spam.

Except QRZ posts their forums there as well. Why can't anyone get to the
people responsible and stop this?

Hello, and is this just speculation or do you have evidence? There's
beaucoup activity on the sci.math ng along with tons of unrelated stuff.
At least the "polite" posters precede the subject with "OT:". Sincerely,

No.

or do you have evidence?

15 years experience of prowling the newsgroups (if that counts for
anything).

unrelated stuff.

I doubt if there's a mathematical formula (!), but even in the most
active of NGs, when the SNR persistently falls too far, the signals
often suddenly disappear - and (presumably) their frustrated posters go
off looking for fresh pastures.

While I would prefer NGs to be unmoderated, it's sometimes the only
solution if subscribers want a NG to survive.
