tower update

Hi gang
I've been trading insults with many of you for more than a few years and I
value you all, even Cecil.
Us Teasips need Aggies, and they need us, they just won't admit it.

Last week I dug the hole for the tower I promised myself 42 years ago.

Monday the backhoe truck broke down.

Tuesday another backhoe showed up but the operator didn't have the key.

Wednesday the hole got dug. It turned out a bit big, but you can't have too
much concrete.
-It's a 48' Trylon self-supporting tower.

Thursday I waited all day.

Friday afternoon, after waiting all day Thursday, the rebar and tower base
were installed and welded together.
-The tower base was plumbed with a laser transit.

Monday, 7AM, poured the concrete, done by noon.

After the two week cure, the crane comes.

More then.

Did you know, when I was at Texas A&M in the 50's, Texas University was
a branch of the Texas A&M system?

You welded the rebar???

Some, not all.
Electrically desirable, but the main concern was making the base stable
during the pour.
Now I'm sinking an array of ground rods.

These guys build power lines, for God's sake, they're moonlighting.

Ever see how many frickin' towers power line engineers build?

Get a life.

This is a child's fantasy that's come to fruition after 42 years.

And if I save one sailor's life on the Maritime Net it's worth it all.

Read an article about welding rebar and also had a chat
with one of the workers on our building site about it.

Welding different type of rebar is not good idea but
if you have the same type you can do so.

The problem they have is the stuff just gets dropped
off the truck and can come from different lots and
you don't know what you have.

Have you decided on what you'll put on the tower ?

Jake
We bought all the rebar at once.
The beam is a 4 element SteppIR.
The crane arrives Thursday morning.
